This circa 1880 Puerto Rico Spanish Colony CuNi merchant token from Ferreteria el Canon is a remarkable uncirculated piece. One side features a prominent, detailed engraving of a cannon mounted on a wheeled carriage resting on a textured ground line. The other side displays a large, stylized numeral "5" centered over a background of radiating rays, entirely encircled by a ring of five-pointed stars. Offering a sharp strike and excellent uncirculated surfaces, this copper-nickel token is a wonderful artifact of late nineteenth-century Puerto Rican commerce.
