This 1380–1422 French Gros Tournois (Ciani 506) is a beautifully preserved medieval silver hammered coin struck during the reign of King Charles VI. One side is centered by a prominent heraldic shield displaying three distinct, well-defined fleurs-de-lis—the classic symbol of the French monarchy—neatly enclosed within a solid circular border. The opposing side features a large, flared cross pattée that boldy divides the central field into four separate quadrants. These quadrants are adorned with alternating emblems, showcasing two regal crowns and two additional small fleurs-de-lis. Preserved in About Extremely Fine (aXF) condition, this silver piece exhibits a slightly irregular, hand-hammered planchet with attractive, dark contrasting toning nestled deep within the recesses of the central devices, beautifully highlighting the intricate late-fourteenth-century craftsmanship.
